Support Services Manager
Salary: £14,000 pa actual salary (£24,500 full time equivalent)
Hours: 4 or 5 days per week, 20 hoursto be mutually agreed between the Trustees and Post Holder
Location of workplace: Wigan Investment Centre initially, hybrid working
Holidays: 132 hours per year including bank holidays (equivalent to 25 days annual leave FTE)
Reports to: The Vice Chair of Trustees of the Wigan Deanery Trust. The post holder will also have a close working relationship with the Church Wigan Team Rector

Purpose of role:
To effectively manage Wigan Deanery Trust’s support services team, providing efficient expert leadership and resource across Finance, Communications, Safeguarding, Policies and Procedures, Property Management, HR and Administration.
Context:
Wigan Deanery Trust was established to work with partners in Wigan to promote the welfare and wellbeing of local residents with a particular emphasis on tackling social inclusion. This includes working with the Church of England in Wigan (Church Wigan) to support the advancement of its objectives, to be a Bigger Church, making a bigger difference, with more people knowing Jesus and more justice in the world. The Trust was also established to manage a range of core functions across Church Wigan, including its Funeral Service.
What we are looking for:
A capable and experienced manager willing to offer themselves in this essential/important role to serve both Wigan Deanery Trust and Church Wigan. We need someone who is an encourager of others, thrives on working in a team, is an excellent problem solver and loves to develop staff. You will enjoy working with a wide range of people, including clergy and volunteers. You will need to be up for a challenge and will have the autonomy to develop and manage the team around you, as well as be hands on to get the jobs done. You will make a big difference to the impact Church Wigan will have in throughout Wigan Deanery and the local community.
Responsibilities of this role:
- Direct line management of all Wigan Deanery Trust part-time employees who also work closely with Church Wigan Clergy, the Wigan Next Generation team and diocesan employees including:
- Finance Officers
- Clergy Administrators
- Property officer
- Funerals Co-ordinator
- Communications Officer
- Youth / Schools Chaplains
- Fundraising Officer
- Policies and HR Officer
- Working closely with the Team Rector and Vice Chair of Trustees to:
- Support the Wigan Deanery Trust trustees to ensure the smooth operation of the Trust and support services for Church Wigan
- Oversee the development of IT and finance systems and processes for Church Wigan and the Trust.
- Oversee the development and management of all Church Wigan and Wigan Deanery Trust processes
- Oversee document management for the Trust and the Church Wigan
- Ensure legal compliance of Church Wigan, supporting churches eg, with health and safety, buildings control and maintenance
- Office management
- Administration tasks as required
